Do you do the entire assessment and raps or do people from other disciplines share it? Is there any way you can anticipate or project the length of stay a few days in advance?
Maybe you would want to set a common practice with your team, that you initiate it as a 1/1 and if it is anticipated everyone completes their raps on or about day 12 or 13 so you are not doing it last minute. In the event that you know they are leaving earlier just change the reason code to 0/1 and don't complete the raps. Basing the admission raps on the 5 day is much easier than waiting until the last minute and trying to complete after the 14 day ARD. -----Original Message----- From: Gola, Tammy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2004 12:32 PM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: OBRA Admission Assessment Question Again So what do you do when they don't leave on day 14, doesn't that admission assessment need to be completed and signed by day 14? So if you do a 5 day on day 5 and code it 0/1, when do you set your 14 day assessment and complete it, in order to stay compliant with OBRA? I code my first assessment 0/1 and do a d/c tracking 8. Here are some other answers given to this question recently: The top of page 1-15 states "An RAI must be completed for any resident resident residing in the facility longer than 14 days, including:" So it would not be "longer" than 14 days if the resident left before the end of the 14th day. If they left before 11.59 PM on day 14 , an admission assessment is not required. You need to keep any assessment that you started, but did not complete, on the resident's medical record and make a notation about why the assessment was not completed. If any experts out there (Rena? Jan?) disagree, please respond. /---------------------------------------------------------- The Case Mix Discussion Group is a free service of the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators "Committed to the Assessment Professional" Be sure to visit the AANAC website.
