Hi all,
Just wanted to comment on not taking the Gleevec.
I left mine off for just one week and my platelets went up.
I don't think we can thing of CML as going into remission.
Even if your pcr shows negative, there are still many lukes hiding in the blood.
I now take my im faithfully and deal with the side effects and hope and pray something will come along that will really put us into remission.
I also think that as new as this drug is, we are the new trial and error for this drug.
I think posting our problems on this list will help everyone deal with this.
I am 67 and 10 years sounds like a lot for me but what about the young people now be dx with this cml?
Each year is a new year of hope.
Each day is a new day of hope.
Let's just live each day to the fullest; loving and caring for everyone.
Letting our light shine everyday to all and when God is ready to take us home; we can smile and say we fought this battle with all the strengh God gave us.
So put on the armour today and fight, fight, fight.
Add something healthy to your diet daily; exercise as much as you can; I like walking.
Get a hobby; something you can do with a passion; mine is genealogy.
Listen to some beautiful music daily and watch some funny movies.
Go to the beach and watch the beautiful water, bird and sea life.
Do something wonderful for someone today.
Blessings to all,
Jeanie<3

Yes--it's true that it was a big mistake to stop the gleevec. I wish I knew that then, you just get kind of confortable with your Dr. and assume he had done his homework. I'm sure he did not have bad intentions. He even had my husband on 200mg of gleevec and if it was not for this site and a fellow cml'er who let me know to question that, he would have been happy to leave him on that. I think you are right about Dr.s who deal with all different kinds of cancer not knowing cml as much as a specialist. I wish there was one in our area, but unfortunately there is not. Our new onc. is also one who deals with many other types of cancer. However, he seems very confortable consulting with others if he does not know something which makes me feel a little better. It means we have to always stay on top of the treatment plan thats for sure. I am so happy to be able to check things out with all the New!
