Having replaced a few thru hull fitting in older C&Cs one thing I now do is consider the scope of the project, budget and timeline.
If your haul out costs and timing are getting beyond the plan replacing the one that is not serviceable then freeing up the others may buy several years of sailing time before having to replace the others. Calypso has several original (43 year old) bronze thru hull fittings that I have rebuilt and other, high use valves that have been replaced with high quality ball valves. I have added a ball valve inside of the thru hull fitting (double up the hose clamps) in places where the valve may open and close several times each trip (head sink for example). When sailing in waters that are populated with large floating debris (the Salish Sea) consider the vulnerability of the thru hulls when selecting the type and material. A boat repair professional helped me with that decision by placing a bronze and plastic thru hull fitting on his work bench. He picked up a sledge hammer and gave each a good smack to duplicate a log strike. I have all bronze thru hulls which have survived some significant collisions with UFOs (un-identified floating objects). If you are mostly racing during daylight and/or in waters with less debris to hit the plastic thru hull fittings should work fine with the added bonus of lower cost, weight, and electrolysis concerns. The nice man at Groco suggested that if it had to come out he wouldn't put it back but would put a new one in since its the same amount of work and pain. The rubber plugs are no longer made for these old SV series valves, I am hoping that at least the 2 for cockpit drains have been used little and can be resurrected. If they can great, if not well.... I have a seacock (or maybe 3) to replace in my C&C 32 < John, why do you want to replace Groco seacocks? Are they showing signs of electrolysis (going pink and soft) or are they stuck open/closed?
