When I first had FoxFire, I thought my thru-hulls were stuck also after a
winter on the hard. Found that once I got into the water, the freed up.
The water actually served as a bit of a lubricant. I carry wood plugs for
each thru hull (not rubber plugs) so I don't have to worry about hardening,
etc.

Martin, they are stuck open, I hope to get them working again and have
detailed instructions from Groco on how to do that, once the boat is out of
the water, the problem is that at least 1 of them I can't get the plug out
of due to how it was installed up close against a bulkhead (I'd really like
to meet the meat head that did it, all he had to do was turn it 180 degrees
and no problem). The nice man at Groco suggested that if it had to come out
he wouldn't put it back but would put a new one in since its the same amount
of work and pain. The rubber plugs are no longer made for these old SV
series valves, I am hoping that at least the 2 for cockpit drains have been
used little and can be resurrected. If they can great, if not well....

John, why do you want to replace Groco seacocks? Are they showing signs of
electrolysis (going pink and soft) or are they stuck open/closed?

Thanks for all the feedback guys, at least I know now that I shouldn't
expect consistency through the boat.

Yes I have postponed until my usable vacation time is gone. Might be out for
a while. I begin to realize why the local boat yards take the approach of
hole sawing the old through hulls out and starting again once then have
repaired the fiberglass. If you are paying their labour it's probably more
cost effective.

Has anyone here ever reconditioned the rubber plugs in the Groco SV
seacocks? According to the nice man at Groco, it's a real easy thing to do.
He's given me the low down on how to do it and says they will be good for
another 20 years afterwards. Since they are in the business of selling them
I have no reason to doubt him but wondered if anyone has first hand
experience.

Thanks
John

Subject: Stus-List C&C 32 Through Hulls

Hi All,

I have a seacock (or maybe 3) to replace in my C&C 32, I was going to
purchase a replacement through hull for it in advance as well just in case,
does anyone know if they are mushroom head or recessed fittings? The year
built is 1981/82. We have not hauled the boat since we bought it in 2010 and
I can't remember from the survey quick lift what type they were.

Also does anyone know what make the 3/4" seacocks are, I can't find any
clues on the valve bodies, I know that the 1-1/2" are Groco SV, at least one
of which I am replacing. The 3/4" are all in need of servicing so it would
be nice to know who the manufacturer was.

Thanks in Advance

John
