I will store mast up this year. It had been the last two for a full refit and I see no reason to take it down for a few more years. Our yard has a custom C&C 36 cradle (they used to require all owners buy a cradle) that a former owner left that has been assigned to me for the past 5 winters. They will also use jack stands as well to support the boat. So, I feel safe leaving it up. Just have to keep up on the rainwater with a shop vac and hand bilge pump.

There are just under 100 boats stored at our marina for the winter. 99% are mast up, on trailers with the frame supported to reduce load on the axle and tires. Hasn't been an issue since the marina was built in the early 80s and we get strong prairie storms, winter and summer. A summer storm with plow winds went through years ago, and the boats that hadn't been launched yet were fine. On the opposite side... Last week a newbie from the coast was worried about staying at a marina that stores mast down, due to power lines.... Someone mentionthat a boat at nearby marina had their boat mast accidentally dropped onto the deck while getting being hauled for the winter... so now the newbies are scared to lower the mast due to risk of damage and perceived stress on the stick. A friend stored his C&C 33-2 with mast up and it blew over in a winter storm. He now has no mast. With mast down possibly the reduced windage would have prevented the boat from blowing over but certainly would have not resulted in a mast broken in three areas. The boat was on a cradle.
