Because implementation is not intuitive in the following, I think,

</implementation>
And I don't think there is any implementation for a configuration, right?

I still prefer consistent id naming conventions:

<service service-id="...">
<contribution service-id="...">
<configuration configuration-id="...">
<contribution configuration-id="...">
but not sure I like "contribution" instead of "implementation".  So,
why not:
<service service-id="...">
<implementation service-id="...">
<configuration configuration-id="...">
<implementation configuration-id="...">
errr....
