I would be happy to see the software at GitHub. We could put both the
inactive PCL/ZCO/PrimaGIS stack and the active ones (zgeo.* etc)
there. I think that would make contributing a whole lot easier and
encourage experimentation and also reduce the administrative costs in
terms of time and money. Having used both git and GitHub I can easily
recommend both. I would be willing to help in doing such a migration.

As to PrimaGIS, and to Alan in particular, the Plone 3 branch is
almost finished in terms of the planned feature set and zope3 style
refactoring. It does require some polish but should be easy to pick up
if you're interested.

However, during the development of ZCO/PrimaGIS I also came to realize
that the design decisions that we made are not optimal (for large
scale deployments), in particular the rendering of the map imagery
should not, in my opinion, be the responsibility of the application
server (Zope) as this can easily consume resources that could be
better allocated. Depending on the project and requirements this may
not be a concern and in such case PrimaGIS does offer nice integration
into Plone and allows for creating custom maps without the need to
host a separate map server.

cheers,
Kai
