Were I to be looking for a PostScript laser printer, my first choice
would be the HP LaserJet 4M+. It's cheap, it does PostScript Level 2
(for OS X support), it works fine with any Mac or Windows or Unix or
Linux box, it does 600dpi printing. The cartridge is readily available
because there are hundreds of thousands in every day use (many times
more many than the equivalent Apple models) and the multisheet folder
option (up to 2500 pages) is cheap too. It also has an interface that
auto selects between parallel, Localtalk and ethernet.

We have an HP LaserJet 8150 colour duplex printer at work. The output
is OK (not photo quality) but it is also *very* slow. So if we want
some black and white output in a hurry, we still use the 8 year old
LaserJet 4M+...
