I must say that the best $5 I ever spent was for a slightly malfunctioning
LaserWriter Pro 630. This thing has all the connectivity you'd need,
including Mac serial and Ethernet. It would be an ideal printer for the
original inquirer: Plug in the compact Mac via serial, plug in the modern
computer via Ethernet. I have several computers on my hub, and they all
print to the LaserWriter Pro - I'll set up my Linux box for this, too; soon.

The printer prints as fast I need, and it prints very nice grayscale.

I've seen these go for less than $200 on ebay. It's a good idea to check
your local school districts and see how they dispose of their old Macs. I'm
quite happy with this bit of Mac equipment. I've printed thousands of pages
- including good fliers and funeral programs and other professional-looking
items - from this printer, and all for $5!

I couldn't be happier. Well, yes, I could: it jams too often, so I have to
watch it. But when I feel like complaining, I remind myself: "You bought
this for five bucks! Don't complain."
