Yo compacters everywhere,

responding to Dave Lee's:

>>And if I decided that ethernet wasn't so important? Which one would you

>>here) recommend? Also is there an easy way to check for page count.

Our -p aka the pickle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> advises:

>Make absolutely sure you get one with PostScript...

There are some well published and respected Mac gurus out there that will
say "Well........" to our -p's advice to this one. A first question is does
the user even want to do PostScript. Without starting a flame war here,
PostScript and PostScript printers are best left to those who really have a
purpose for them thus must deal with PostScript management issues. For
those of us not into desktop publishing or any other aspect of the
publishing biz, good old Apple TrueType on a PLW does just fine. Nobody I
know can see one whit of difference between TrueType on a PLW and
PostScript on any PostScript laser printer. If you are in the publishing
biz, then PostScript is a must. If ethernet is a must, then a PostScript
printer is a must. I'll adapt the Apple adage here about the PLW being the
laser printer "for the rest of us". Dave tells us he may not be interested
in the ethernet issue here. Unless he tells us he is into the publishing
biz, a latter day PostScript laser printer is a damned fine printer but
perhaps unnecessary overkill as well as grief. We have listers here who are
thrilled getting a salvaged StyleWriter (I) to produce decent print no
matter how slow. I think keeping any old laser printer employed and out of
the landfill is adviseable here. Well, except for those non-EnergyStar
early ones you heat your home with. But, Dave tells us he has a G-Whiz Mac
so maybe the -p's advice is right... Ya puts yer money down and takes yer
chances.

Bill
