I forget what the browser situation is like for 68000 machines, but the hotmail issue is the result of a business decision from Microsoft: they are trying to tell you to get a real computer or mosey off. Of course, you may want to replace mosey with the explicative I used when trying to download IE 3.5 a few years back (they said that they weren't making it available for my own good, and that I should go out and buy a PowerMac). That said, there is nothing preventing you from lying to Microsoft: they are looking at your browser string (a bit of information which is passed to the web server every time you visit a site). Some web browsers allow you to modify this directly, others will force you to use ResEdit, and you will have to use a proxy for others. Just be warned, some companies were trying to claim that forging the browser string is illegal.
