About the lip-sync problem, our daughter's DirecTV High-Def receiver
recognizes it as a potential problem in the trouble-shooting section
of the owner's manual, and lists several different things to do to
correct it. Apparently a well-known problem.

This is interesting. What do they suggest?

From the DirecTV Plus HiDef DVR User Guide:
"My video and audio are out of sync.
-Try changing channels.
-Press LIST, then EXIT
-If neither of those work, restart your DirecTV Plus HiDef DVR."

Sounds kinda like Windows, doesn't it, Tom? ;-)
