I sure wouldn't recommend a casual user - especially one that fears reinstalling a few apps - to install a RC version of Windows 7! At most it will be good for a year, at which point they would likely need to do a clean install again. I mean, who would trust an upgrade to an RC, even if that path was made available? Not me.
If that computer is really new, there's no way I would settle for XP. I'd demand Vista Home Premium. What I really can't understand is how many people seem to fear reinstalling.
