>1. Did the shop owner accurately characterize Microsoft's plans when she >said that it is "taking Vista out of the market because it would cost them >too much to fix all the bugs"?
Win 7 appears to be mostly a deloused version of Vista. Some have even claimed that it would be wrong for M$ to charge Vista customers for Win7, but should make it a free bug fix upgrade. Clearly M$ doesn't want to give anything away for free hence they have guys like you thumping for the wonderfulness of Win7. Someone looking at the situation with an impartial eye could very well conclude the same as Marcio's computer lady. She should be commended for thinking for herself. >2. Is there significant uncertainty about "what Microsoft is going to do" in >terms of an upcoming release of Windows? We know there will be a Win7. I grant you that. Are there really going to be 16 Gazillion different versions for every single price point that M$ marketeers can think of? Who knows. I expect there will be way too many. Apple has a desktop version and a server version, I think two is a good number. Is M$'s FUD about there being no easy upgrade path from XP to Win 7 true or just a desperate attempt to sell more copies of Vista? Who knows. I lean toward desperation, but that is just a personal opinion. Will M$ engineering suddenly turn competent? I don't think so, but hope springs eternal. >3. Is there any reason why one would decide to stick with XP due solely to >the need to "learn what Microsoft is going to do"? Trick question. Is there anything wrong with XP that would motivate "upgrading" to Vista? I don't see anything. Are there reasons to avoid Vista? I think so and many IT people tell me the same. Is Vista really an upgrade or just a lame attempt to extract $$$$ from the sheeple? Baaaa! >4. Did I, or anyone else, recommend that Marcio purchase Vista, as you implied? There you go again. Stuffing words into other people's mouths so that you can feign indignation. This question has no merit. ************************************************************************* ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *************************************************************************
