Part of the art of translation is understanding the subtleties of translation.
That is why when I went to seminary the ability to read Greek,
Hebrew, and if possible German and Latin were required.
Because when you deal with original text's just a literal translation
will not cut it.
My language skill has waned over the years. But I still do reading
to see how it should be done and understand the subtleties being described.
It never hurts to learn a foreign language.
My cousin who graduated from a trade school in Germany was required
to learn two foreign languages to graduate.
In the state of Alabama, to receive an advanced diploma you need two
years of a foreign language. TO get a general high school diploma no
foreign language is required. We cripple our own children by not
challenging them to live in a multi cultural world.

Thanks, for your compassionate understanding in this, Rev. In the
plane of cross-cultural acitivity, those of us grasping for any tool
are grateful, imperfect as those may be. All of you should
understand, beyond geek-centricity, that some of us are using tools
to bring people together, offering moment for those with aspiration
to reach chance.

It is great to help comprehension and to get the gist of what is
written in a foreign language. No doubt.
But sometimes it misses the subtleties that can also be contained in there.
They are always a good start, but should never be substituted for the
real thing.
