I put frozen meat in the crock pot all of the time.  The crock has never 
cracked.  It just takes longer to cook, that's all.  I even put it on high.  I 
also defrost meat on the counter for a few hours too.  It is still very cold 
when I cook it, as if it just came out of the refrigerator.

 the threat of bacteria.  Plus, if cooked to the FDA
 suggested internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit,

 sure that the coldness will not crack the crock.  Once
 the roast has been thawed, you can then raise the
 temperature setting.
