Mary, I've been using foil-lined baking pans for over forty years, and the only time I've ever had a problem was when I used foil in the broiler, and the grease from the meat caught on fire. I simply turned off the oven and did not open the door until the fire went out. If you leave the door closed, the fire is deprived of oxygen and it will go out on its own. I've been too afraid to use the broiler since then, <smile>, but I have absolutely no problem with foil in baking pans.
