Mary,

I'd be curious why your friend feels foil is a fire hazard. Obviously you don't want to be touching the heating element with the foil. But, my granny, my mother, and I have always used foil in the oven to cover pans. Many pie recipes will tell you to make a collar of foil to protect the edges of a pie crust to prevent burning. Many other recipes will tell you to bake covered with foil for a specified time. And, other recipes will instruct you to line a baking dish or roasting pan with foil for easy clean up or easy removal of baked goods for example from the pan. I would recommend covering your pan before you put it in the oven for example so you are not waving this piece of foil around near the heating element, but other than that, you are safe. Also, once upon a time, all tv dinners as they were called came in foil pans covered with foil.

I hope this helps you feel more safe.

Subject: [CnD] Foil in oven

Hi,
I'm curious, have any of you had problems when using a baking pan with foil to bake things in the conventional oven? I have never had any problems with it, though I have a friend who says that nobody should bake things in the oven using foil because it can be a fire hazard. I don't know what to believe, because I've never had issues. Please share your feedback.
Mary
