Ken, For the hot cylinder, I would first check the intake flexible hose
fitting for looseness or cracks.

If the intake manifold hose fitting for that cyl is loose, it will suck in
air, making that cyl run too lean ----thur hot...  The spark plug for that
cyl would also be white  from running so hot.....


After assuring that the hose is not bad, then I would closely look at
cowling
fitting around the top of the engine. The cowling should fit tight,
forcing
air down thru the cly fins to provide cooling...... Also be sure to check
for
rats, etc., and rags....
