----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Just my opinion, but I would not want to be undoing thumbscrews if I had to exit the aircraft in an emergency. We use a "clip" with a short (4 in) chain attached to the window handles. This prevents the windows from opening more than 3-4 in. The clip and chain are such that in an emergency they can be "pulled" off with a minimum of force. Turn the thumbscrew clockwise to tighten, counter clockwise to loosen. If your thumbscrews are missing you can get new ones from Univair. It seems I flew in a coupe years back that had something like that. My original one does not hold and the windows "drift" down. I am sure this is not an uncommon problem, I just do not know how to correct it.
