They work fine in my Coupe, Larry. You were probably missing the small piece of aluminum that is supposed to be glued to the inside of the window welt, which squeezes against the plexiglass. We use a "clip" with a short (4 in) chain attached to the window handles. This prevents the windows from opening more than 3-4 in. The clip and chain are such that in an emergency they can be "pulled" off with a minimum of force. Turn the thumbscrew clockwise to tighten, counter clockwise to loosen. If your thumbscrews are missing you can get new ones from Univair. It seems I flew in a coupe years back that had something like that. My original one does not hold and the windows "drift" down. I am sure this is not an uncommon problem, I just do not know how to correct it.
