I purchased a cheapie Magellan about a year ago. It did not have the speed
limitation that some of the Garmins do. However, the reception was less
than satisfactory and I would loose satellite lock very easily and
couldn't
reacquire with out rebooting the unit.  I think there may be a big
difference in the antenna sensitivity with some of the cheaper units. I
have a Garmin 89 (with aviation data base) and it works very well in the
Coupe mounted on the yoke and without using the remote antenna.  I also
own
a Trimble which I used in my Cherokee (yoke mount) and it also was an
excellent unit.
