Hello All:

I have an interesting item. I suspect that my wing
tanks do NOT hold 9 gallons each. I had been running
my plane low on fuel planning to fly to a nearby field
that sells 80 octane. Last night the wx was beautiful so
I went to fill it up. During pre-flight I dipped the tanks with
a graduated stick that came with the plane. It said I had
2 gallons in each tank. The flight to Thun field took 20
minutes. It included a somewhat lengthy run-up. Since it
was chilly out, it took some time for the oil temp to come off the
peg.

Well I was only able to pump 12.6 gallons into both tanks.????

I should have thought I'd use at least 2 gallons to get to Thun
field this should then leave room for 16 gallons in the tanks.

I have noticed that I use my header tank before my wing
tanks are dry. And now, maybe my wing tanks don't hold
18 gallons. I might have greatly reduced range on long cross
countries.

I wonder if an old repair might have reduced the tank capacity?
I did not spot it in the old logs. However I have not read them page
by page, just skimmed through them.

Cheers:
