There actually can be a great difference in SWR bandwidth of
two 1/4 wave antennas, depending on the thickness of the
element. The ratio of thickness to length is quite important
and wire whips are very thin for that element length. A wire
whip has a much smaller bandwidth than an enclosed antenna
that usually uses braid or a copper strap for an element. If
the enclosed antenna has the same thickness wire, then they
are equivalent. Having said that, I'm really sure you won't
notice any audible difference in performance from one type
to another.
