Man, are you lucky, Rich! You have a perfect 10 meter antenna on your plane at just the right time. I've found signing aeronautical mobile scares up a lot of DX.
I once had a 1940 Luscombe once that still had the gear in it for a trailing wire antenna. I may hold a record for 160 meter phone and CW aeronautical mobile. I'd put a tiny windsock on the end, and reel out 150 feet of very thin magnet wire. The Kenwood 440 I had used an automatic antenna tuner. Worked a lot of 160 AM phone. I tested the wire for 150 MPH, but made sure it was still brittle enough to easily break if something caught it.
