I remember in the old days, when I thought a Piper Colt was a real
airplane. The
Colt had a published stall speed, but when learning to fly in it, we
couldn't get a
power off stall. Pull as I might, the plane would rear back, and then
settle down
in to a normal (level) attitude. No ups or downs. A quick look at the
rate of
climb, and I realized we were doing 2,000 fpm down. About the same speed
as a 1200
lb rock. Anyway, after playing with it, we realized that if we held full
power and
did the same thing, it would break rapidly and the left wing would dip.
If
unchecked, it would have gone into a full spin. I guess my point here is
that if
you try hard enough, you can most likely fine some configuration that will
cause a
real stall. Fact of the matter is that I didn't like a stall then, and
now in my
older genteeler days, I'd like one even less. So, I think I'll just let
the thing
fly and forget trying to find the final answer to this 'stall/no stall'
debate.
