Too damn slow on final, tried to recover with the limited elevator available, didn't do so, and smote the earth hard, nose up. He probably wasn't 'stalled' per se, but he clearly wasn't making enough lift either. As my primary instructor said: 'airspeed, airspeed, airspeed!'
