I'd think so. It's more stable in cruise than a 172, which some claim is 
okay as
an IFR platform. Others would prefer a 182 as a minimum, or a PA-28-151 at
least.

It normally lacks what is *the* most significant safety equipment for an 
IFR plane,
that is, an autopilot. So do most 172s. One of our number does, however, 
have a
wing-leveler in his 'Coupe.

Again, I prefer to keep my Ercoupe as simple as possible. When the time
comes
for IFR, I'll happily take what it would cost to install gyros and all the

IFR radios
and apply it towards renting something more suitable.
