Jack,
    If you are going to fly into IFR conditions, it certainly would be
good to have something besides
your butt to get you out.  But, a turn and bank?  Correct me if I'm wrong,
but you can keep your wings
level, and be in coordinated flight right up to the instant that you
impact Mother Earth.  Under the
circumstances, I'd feel much more confident with an artificial horizon
installed.
