Robert,

I applaud your decision to go ahead with the head work.  Perhaps you can hang out when the work is being performed like I was able to during my engine swap.  It's amazing when the guy working on the engine runs into a little snag and you're right there to fill him in on the history.  If $600 is all it takes, that's a bargain- my brother had the head on his Maxima re-done years ago and he drove it for another six years+ (rust & other problems forced him to get rid of it).

2001 Accord LX sounds, well, kinda nice.  Too bad it's not a 2003 Accord- now that's nice!!  Honda finally got some style back into the Accord's body design.  Also too bad the engine isn't the V6 since there's a Comptech kit for it at http://solar.innercite.com/comptech/sc_av6.html just aching to be bolted on.  Try this forum for Honda Accord stuff:

Subject: CRX: Head gasket.. And another Honda...

For those that recall, I had some problems which I thought was due to a bad EACV or a possible blown head gasket.

I want to thank Jason Ustica and George Freeeman for your replies (and George for the really high tech how-to on how to construct a tool for checking to see if coolant has seeped into the cylinders).

Anyway...  I've determined that I've got the beginning of a leak due to a head gasket.  After calling around to friends, peers and other Honda repair shoppes, all highly recommended that I have the head and block resurfaced.  I got quotes ranging from $500 up to $1K.  This put me at a precipice.  Repair, spend some additional money and do a B18 or worse, sell Jiggy "As-Is" (long story...).

After much thought, I decided to go ahead and have my shoppe do the repair (including the machine work needed).  I believe when all is said and done, it will be close to $600 (USD) - Tax and all that stuff...  :^P

Oh, BTW, I also picked up a 2001 Honda Accord LX two nights ago.  :^)  That too is a story in itself and I'm not sure if we're going to keep it (it belongs to my parent's and it has about 8K miles on it - very pristine - just wished they had spent the extra bucks and gotten the EX or V6 EX ;^) ).  Anyone know of any good Accord groups/people?
