What features are you speaking of? There's one new game mode:
demolition, which is just a mix of two old modes. Matchmaking is new as
well, but I would argue that it does more harm than good for server
operators and is the cause for the inflexibility of the current server
set up.
We shouldn't have to limit our servers to a single game type/mode
because of a matchmaking system we're not even allowed to participate in.

Its because it's so much more feature rich than any other counter

management, and the server files really aren't that hard to configure
if you just pay attention. The only thing I don't understand is
requiring steam login to update instead of using something like tf2's
registration system, but I'm sure they have some sort of reason for
that as well.

I don't understand you guys, this game is allready a deadbirth

gamemodes_server.txt and other stuff. you have to do a whole bunch
of work only to be able to play a custom map. and now all this ads
ingame...

No they won't. There's plenty of official servers. Also no one
would do that. And if lots of people shut down servers then
others will put up servers to replace them. Perfect opportunity,
even I would put up CS:GO servers in such a case.
If by some miracle everyone would shut down their servers it would
only show valve that the community doesn't care enough to support
their new games and they should just lock it down even more in the
future. Official servers run by hosting partners only for their
next game.

That's because the game felt unfinished and has multiple issues.
Ads on some official servers are not what's causing the player drop.
Things like joining the server and having it "freeze" on a loading
screen because the server is running the wrong map group or
whatever other issue. That does not give a good impression. Then
there's also the max player count issues and map downloading not
providing good feedback to the players.
Perhaps we could say official servers being the focus is providing
a more stale game... but we don't have access to valve's stats so
we don't know what kind of percentage of players do not use the
server browser. Really though this game was made around small non
customizable matches. This is the entire game on consoles. Yes, PC
has servers with a bigger player cap and more mod options but it
does not seem to be made for that as a whole. Just look at all the
complaints on this mailing list.

Is it? The player counts aren't looking too good.

Don't forget that Valve already tried adding ads to their
games. But that did not work out:

This time however it did work out, from the looks of it.

If the official Valve sanctioned experience is one in which
you're forced to watch a Pinion ad every time you want to play
a game why exactly does this game have a price tag attached to it?
Splitting up the matchmaking into official and community pools
is already salt in the eye to those of us trying to run
communities. But letting an advertising agency run official
servers held above all of our community servers is shady as
fuck for a game that you're charging money for.
