Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    Acts 1:15-17,20-26
    Psalm 113:1-8
    John 15:9-17

A reflection on today's Scripture . . . .

"If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love." (John 15:10)

St. Therese of Lisieux said, in Chapter 10 of her magnificent
autobiography, Story of a Soul, that love was not just a matter of
feeling. Certainly, feeling is part of Love; but Love, she said,
Charity, was a matter of doing. And here Jesus tells us the same thing.
Obviously, Therese took Jesus as her model: "If you keep My
commandments, you will abide in My love."
Love isn't some vaporous
feeling, or some worked-up emotion. Rather, love is quite simply -
actions!

What actions? Actions that reflect what Jesus has told us. There are a
great many of them, but they all boil down to the same thing. We are
enjoined to stop thinking about ourselves and to get out and act for
others. We are called to help the underprivileged, to be a voice for the
voiceless, to love our neighbors as ourselves. All of these are the
commandments that Jesus left with us.

What should we do? Love Jesus. How? Do what He said to do. Help others.
Do not seek to harm others. Speak no evil. When others speak evil
against us, return only kindness.

Read through the Gospels, and you'll see, over and over again Jesus
tells us that the way to happiness is a path that leads us straight out
of ourselves and into the Other.
