Title: FW: Meditation:

The Catholic Calendar for Friday, March 15, 2002
Friday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    Wisdom 2:1a,12-22
    Psalm 34:17-21,23
    John 7:1-2,10,25-30

A Reflection on today's Holy Scripture . . .

The truth always hurts! The reading from the Book of Wisdom certainly
attests to that. The people were complaining because the Lord (the Just
One) pointed out their evil ways. That truth pierced them to the heart
and they began to plot ways to get rid of him, to no longer be faced
with their own sinfulness.

Reading the Gospel, the word that kept coming to me was "injustice." Our
beloved Lord, in His three short years of public ministry, healed the
blind, the lame, He raised Lazarus from the dead. He accomplished only
good. He promised us eternal life, but was bruised, derided, cursed and
defiled in response to his goodness.

Lent is moving on so quickly, the fifth week is nearly upon us. We still
have time in this holy season to face the truth about ourselves and what
we need to do to correct those areas that push us away from our beloved
Lord. He is closer to us than the clothes we wear. Certainly we don't
wish to be separated from Him or the love he bears for each of us.

         Lord Jesus,
Help us to be a new creation this Lenten season.
Let us always work in the Light that is You, my God!
