Title: FW: Meditation:

The Catholic Calendar for Thursday, March 28, 2002
    Holy Thursday

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    Exodus 12:1-8,11-14
    Psalm 116:12-13,15-18
    1 Corinthians 11:23-26
    John 13:1-15

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Today's Gospel for the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper provides some
of the most explicit instructions the apostles and indeed all followers
of Jesus would ever hear. It isn't just the commands to eat His Body,
drink His Blood, and to do it in remembrance of Him. I'm referring to
the command of Jesus that we imitate Him as the servant of all. This
command  makes it clear that if we wish to be  His followers, we must
model all our behavior on Him.

It isn't just in isolated aspects of our lives that Christ's actions
must find expression in us, but also in all aspects of our lives. To be
the servant of all requires adherence to a lifestyle that puts the needs
of others before those of our own. It means loving the seemingly
unlovable, sacrificing not just when it is convenient, but especially
when it isn't. It means being humble enough to accept God's primacy over
us and the absolute right He has to our praise and obedience.

As this Holy Triduum begins, let us beg the Lord for the grace to
imitate Him. By the merits of His Precious Blood may the Father give us
all that is required to grow in holiness, in imitation of His Beloved
Son.
