I agree in the general but disagree in the specific.
Joe-Random edits can be destructive, but specific edits can be purposeful.

Let me give a use-case.

I'm taking interior shots of a historical monument.
GPS on my camera doesn't work inside.

I take a reference shot outside where GPS does work.
I use exiftool to copy the GPS coordinates from the outside shot to the
inside shot.

Now you may argue that its better to do the copy from the reference shot
to the derived jpgs, but that is going to involve a lot more work, has
to be done for each and every time you make a jpg from the RAW.
I think that is going to be more error prone and liable to be missed in
practice. Well, OK, maybe you're the kind of person who makes
one-and-only-one jpg from a RAW (which raises the question: Why are you
shooting RAW and not jpg?), but I'm not, I try for varied effects. I
view DT as an exploratory tool!

There is probably a good case to be made for some users in affixing a
copyright/ownership tag to the RAW as well. Yes, I know you can do it
to the jpgs, but many people would want it done as early as possible and
can make a good case that it should be applied to the RAW.

Please notice that I think DT never altering the RAW is a good thing.
I do note that it alters the exif data when producing the jpgs, but that
is really changing the context and is to be expected.
