This could additionaly be done, but I don't think it is needed. The installer just works fine without it. This does not solve the issue that the hostname and mailname are not correct after reboot.

That's what my patch intended to do. The only thing I'm not sure about and cannot test right now is if /etc/hostname exists after netcfg in the installer ramdisk.
