Further testing revealed that use of the following command line:
SCANFILE C:\Progra~1\FSI\F-Prot\F-Prot.exe /TYPE /SILENT /NOMEM /ARCHIVE
/NOFLOPPY /NOBOOT /DUMB /REPORT=report.txt causes the error described and
that use of this following command line:
SCANFILE C:\Progra~1\FSI\F-Prot\fpcmd.exe /TYPE /SILENT /NOMEM /ARCHIVE
/NOBOOT /DUMB /REPORT=report.txt causes the same error but for the pfcmd.exe
program instead of the ntvdm.exe program.

That is *very* unusual. All the NTVDM errors I've seen are 100% related to 16-bit processes, and go away with 32-bit processes (like fpcmd.exe).

It appears the virus program used controls the program reported by the error
report. This would lead me to suspect Microsoft has not fixed the desktop
heap issue related to Declude product use. Or, more so, that Declude has not
effectively addressed this issue in newer releases of their products.
The referred entry described by Ipswitch (IM-20020305-DM01) and Declude are
not in the Windows 2003 registry (at least I've not found it yet).

You're running Windows 2003? That could well be the problem -- I'm not aware of anyone else running IMail on it yet. Small things can make a difference here -- for example, if Windows 2003 turns off short filenames by default, some command line virus scanners won't work properly.

What is the *exact* error message you are getting? If it has "0xC0000142" in it, it's the "Microsoft Mystery Heap" issue, and there are some ways to deal with the problem. If it doesn't have "0xC0000142" in it, it's a different issue than the Mystery Heap issue.
