You didn't say which version of Delphi. If using 2005 or 2006 you
can also use certain command-line and registry options to load only the
personality wanted and only the features as well!

Subject: Reducing Startup Time via Minimal Package Loading

Like many of you who don't use Delphi all day long, I'd like to minimize the

time it takes to load. For some reason, I'm unsuccessful in what--I
think--ought to be fairly simple. Perhaps you can help me. Here's what I'd
like to do ...

When Delphi starts, I'd like it to load only a minimal number of installed
packages/components (i.e., the ones you can check in the Component|Install
Packages... menu). When I begin a new project, I would still like to have
only a minimal number of packages installed. At that point, I'd like to be
able to choose the packages/components I'd like to be part of my project.

The hard part is saving all this. The *next* time I load Delphi, I'd *still*

like it to load a minimum number of packages, and when I reopen my project
have *only* the packages I'd previously selected load.

I seem to be more successful at having Delphi start with a minimum # of
loaded packages then having my choices for an individual project saved,
i.e., the next time I load a project I find all the packages reloaded again.

I feel a little dumb asking such a simple question--but I'd rather feel dumb

and save time then feel smart as I wait forever for projects to start :-)

Thanks, as always -- Al
