Alan,
Ask on the Borland Delphi General IDE list, or look back thru the
last three weeks of messages for a subject containing, "Delphi 2006 Startup
times", because there were a great number of posts on this subject and links
to Borland blogs and sites were given that I used to set my system up. My
startup time for D2006 Delphi Pro Personality w/Together and ECO III,
And tons of addons and component packages is under 20 sec now.

Subject: Re: Reducing Startup Time via Minimal Package Loading
Thank you all for your responses to my question. As far as a new hard drive
goes, well, I'd like to find a different solution if possible--though I
don't rule out getting some more memory. As far as Delphi Configuration
Manager goes, yes I'm familiar with it. In fact, I would recommend it quite
highly. I recently upgraded to Delphi 2006, though, so DCM isn't
(yet...hint, hint Jeremy :-) configured for this latest upgrade.
Rob, I tried your suggestions and was very hopeful they would work.
Everything seemed to be working well--restarting D2006 I found only my
minimal list of packages loading, and when I opened a previous project I
found only the packages I wanted were loaded. Good! ... However, when I then
started a new VCL Forms application I found *all* the packages loaded again.
If you've got any thoughts about what I'm doing 'wrong', I'll continue to
listen carefully.
And in the meantime, my sincerest thanks to all three of you for taking the
time to respond to my question. I really appreciate it. -- Al
