Hi Andreas,

I think maybe this is not the best time or place for a discussion on this, and as you can probably tell, I'm really not competent to debate the merits of each type of data source anyway.

So I'll simply respond by saying 'thanks' for the detailed information, and point out that the depth and complexity of your response beautifully emphasizes the need for some plain guidance for the poor newbie who may be faced with this choice.

Fortunately, the embedded HSQLDB is the default for new databases and it's a safe choice most of the time.
