Fun stuff is fun. But I'm looking for features that can be classified
as "useful". For example, getting a FreeBSD 5.x / Apache 2.x / PHP 4.x
combination that is considered "rock-solid" and "production-quality"
ranks high for one of several high-traffic sites I manage. (I'm stuck
on FreeBSD 4.x because 5.x is not considered production quality ---
which is not Apache's fault, to be fair.) Again, my viewpoint is thus:
"Apache 1.3.x can do XYZ, can Apache 2.x do XYZ and if so how?"
Apache2/PHP raises another issue about Apache 1.3.x modules that are not
ported to or not well-supported under Apache 2.x. Obviously, there's
always room for more communication and more contributors to do the
necessary work. But to increase uptake of Apache 2.x, maybe the ASF
needs to do more things to entice and encourage module developers and
address their primary concerns.
Just my 2 yen.
