>>what the hell is an RIA? My own acronym for Rich Internet Applications, very exciting theme at Devcon utilising the power of MX and and actionscript using flash remoting (make sure you download the extra remoting components from MM for Flash MX) to talk to MX server and CF, web services as well, supposed to change the internet, have like (is it the Nokia site)m where they run their commercials on tv and use the same ones to randomly display, different commercial every 4th visitor, all this with added dimension of interractivity and back end database interraction with web services and components, re bandwidth there is a limit in Flash working this way, not technically enough on this on how much it can work with, therefore the size of components is a problem, sorry to be so vague on this as I'm newbie in this stuff...

How many felt they had to upgrade and why? On a linux box I`m happy enough with CF5 but would put MX on there for the extra $500 if I got business to warrant this (and more of these boxes as well), but locally you can'y beat MX Studio and MX Server. MX is biggest upgrade of Cf Server since ver1. Basically you cant work with RIA without it, there's plenty of work there to get a proper handle on this stuff, Rich Internet Applications using webservices, cfc's and Flash remoting and you need MX to work properly with this stuff. ... rgds Colm -----Original Message----- From: Paolo Piponi [mailto:paolo@;epoq.co.uk] Sent: 14 November 2002 16:47 To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [ cf-dev ] CF5 to MX upgrade Tell me more. I was trying to upgrade on IIS but it kept trying to install on the built in stand alone server. In the end I had to install it on the stand alone, run the batch file to switch it over to IIS then change some variable as I run a server with virtual sites. Can't remember what this setting is or where but I am sure somebody else will let you know. It took me all day to do the upgrade and the server was down for all that time.
