What do people think the mission or ethos of SpreadOpenOffice.org should be? OpenOffice.org is unique from Firefox in several ways:
--Bigger user investment in time to download and getting accustomed to
--More mature audience (information worker/small office/enterprise vs. home user)
Other thoughts? Let's think about and discuss this.
As you are aware, it has been discussed very recently on discuss@, see:

The general consensus or feedback that I am receiving is that we are doing it already and or a copycat campaign will not be successfully replicated.
Conducting and calling any new OOo promotion with a similar name to that of the Firefox campaign I think will be detrimental. Those people who are new or somewhat familiar with Firefox having responded to the get/spread Firefox campaign and who may not know enough about OOo, will be very disappointed for the reasons discussed in the discuss@ thread and that you have outlined here.
So what do you see as the strategy for promoting OOo 2.0? If an SFX style campaign won't work, what will?
What you are talking about is a special promotion not a strategy. It does not replace ongoing marketing activities that are happening and need to happen. For example, checking and updating our communication, preparation of new material such as flyers, website material, presentations, identifying and working towards deadlines for PR, ensuring those that are attending conferences have the material they need, putting on OOoCon2005 etc.
There has been much discussion about the spreadfirefox campaign, but nobody has yet described what it is or the purpose so that others may assess whether a similar promotion would work for OOo.
Perhaps those that attended Bart's presentation at DLS can let the list know what they learnt.
