If your copy of Excel functions in that way, then Calc should also. The idea is to bring users who do not want to use that product to OpenOffice.org with as little problem. If this is what is happening then we need to have the issue. However, it is not a showstopper and should be considered as time permits.
Also, my copy of Excel did function as I stated. However, I will attempt to get another copy and see what happens. I will re-open the issue and mark it as an enhancement.
