Wow. You've certainly worked in some dis-functional groups Kay!

Possibly--but I think be definition MANY groups are dis-functional.

I'll certainly agree that many groups are dysfunctional. Let's not use them as a model.

The process we used is NOT flawed

IMO, yes the process is flawed... because it is taking for-bloody-ever to get something done.

I'm sure we'd all like to hear your suggestions.

Although you didn't specifically ask for my suggestions, I'll give them anyway.

The way we should have gone way back in February was to put up one of the original home page ideas immediately. Rather than discussing a page to death, just *do it*.

Back on Feb. 16 I wrote,
...why we can't have a new home page *now* while the PLs debate over the details -- and well before OOo2.0 comes out. So we change the page later to one the PLs choose, what's the big deal?

In fact, if one of the proposed new pages were on the site now, we could run some usability tests and see what the problems are, then use that insight when refining the design.

Or are you (Maarten, Louis, Kay) saying that the page under consideration doesn't work, technically? I thought Matthew's page worked...

Louis replied to my post,
Both ideas offer substantial reworking of the CSS and need testing before simply implementing--even Matthew's.

It's now 6 weeks later. I don't see how "reworking of the CSS and testing" can possible take that long. I can only assume (from other notes on this list, as I haven't been reading the other list) that other things are delaying implementation... such as nitpicking over what's where on the page, or believing that no chance is needed before OOoV2 actually comes out.

Regards, Jean
