Hi Kay, Maarten (it's nice to hear from you again :) )

The 'error message' in case of no JRE detected is way too long imho. I'd
simply add (and include Java) with a questionmark / tooltip assigned that
explains why, and what they can do about it. Most users won't even care
about it (except for the increased download speed, but that is way to
difficult to explain if also the added benefit should be discussed

I agree. An even more minimalist solution would be to include the
checkbox as seen on the "More platforms and languages" page and have
it show and be automatically ticked if no JRE is detected (with a
short description beside it, of course). This could also be the
default case if javascript is disabled.
If a JRE is detected, then the checkbox wouldn't appear at all. What
do you think?

oh boy...everything old is new again! You know up until VERY recently, this is EXACTLY what we had! If we had the checkbox as you suggest, we'd need to add additional processing if they "unchecked" it of course. Hm....let me think about this.

Right now I have considerable shortened the message. Disable Java and take a look. I'm relying on the user to deal with what they want to do really.

Anyway, Ivan, I do like going back to the checkbox idea...so I'll spend some time thinking about this as an alternative.

P.S. on my computer (WinXP, Firefox 3 & JRE), there's still a short
'freeze' delay load while the JRE is detected.

Regards,
Ivan.
