Hi, upstream KDE has decided to drop support for X11 sessions already in Plasma 6.8 instead of 7.0 or later as had previously been announced: https://blogs.kde.org/2025/11/26/going-all-in-on-a-wayland-future/
As the packager of kwin-x11 and plasma-workspace-x11, I condemn this user- hostile and unforeseen policy reversal, and will be hard at work to limit the damage to Fedora users to a minimum. Therefore: * I plan to switch the kwin-x11 package to one of the forks already out there (see, e.g., https://github.com/KDE-Lite/kwin-x11-lite), somewhere between now and the release of Plasma 6.8. * I plan to switch the plasma-workspace-x11 package to a fork if it is available, somewhere between now and the release of Plasma 6.8. If not, I will either freeze its version at 6.7.x (there are already no more hard version dependencies preventing such a freeze), or fork that version myself, or apply reverts of the removal commits to 6.8, whatever turns out to make more sense. * I may have to fork (or ship someone else's fork of) other parts of Plasma (e.g., some KCMs) starting from Plasma 6.8 and will be looking into how to deliver these safely without conflicting with Plasma Wayland.
