We warn clients about this when we receive a transfer request on a renewal
that is less than 60 days old and advise them to wait until after 60 days.

I know the time frame is 45 days but I would prefer they wait a few extra
days so we don't deal with the issue of why they lose the renewal period
that they paid at the other registrar.

Otherwise the client will blame you, regardless of whom is at fault.
