Ultimately, yes. I would prefer that the client settle with one reseller.  I'm
sure you'd agree that generally customers are looking to have their
registrations with one supplier, one they can count on for good service and
support.  One place to manage DNS, renewals, email/hosting services and so on. 
One of the things we try to do is make management of these kinds of things as
simple as possible so clients don't have to manage all of the details of this
themselves.

I'd of course hope that they choose us as their supplier, but if not that's
their call.  It would be frustrating to only be able to provide help with some
domains, and have to refer clients elsewhere for assistance on others.
