There isn't anyone you can turn to if you are looking to get help with
a domain that is being effected right now by this policy.

All you can do is join the fight to get ICANN to force Verisign to
change these policies, which is a long term solution only.

You may end up paying for this domain name with them, and then
transferring it later.

What you should do is get ALL your own and your clients' domains away
from NSI NOW, without waiting till the renewal date is close by.
Waiting only runs the risk of encountering those problems you mention.
Let Verisign know how you feel by taking as much business away from
them as possible right away.
